One of Tom Tobrook’s aunt’s, Maisie Jean Bazely, has spent a lifetime writing poetry.

Now in her late seventies, living in Canberra, Australia, she has produced a compendium of poems that represent a collection of her writings over 50 years.

Jean Bazely was born in Nottingham in 1935 and moved to Yorkshire after the war with her mother and brothers. She later travelled widely with her army husband and her two children before emigrating to Australia in 1973 where she continued her love of travel sailing both Eastwards and Westwards on revisits to England.

Thoughts from afar
'THOUGHTS FROM AFAR'

‘Thoughts from Afar’ brings together some 130 poems in an exquisitely produced special edition gift book.

It represents the best of her life time's work.

These unpretentious poems do not set out to seek comparison with Keats, Byron and Shelley, but their simplicity and emotional poignancy give them depth and wisdom that will resonate with a very wide audience of all ages. They touch on affairs of the heart, the seasons, England and travel; they are of their time, about living and human emotions on life's journey. Although they are evocative of a simpler time and English culture that perhaps is no longer in fashion, they remain contemporary, insightful and enduring.

Because of the time frame over which they were written, the poems embrace a voyage from gentle innocence, femininity to reflections in older years – all of which will appeal to a diverse market.

Efforts are ongoing to have them published in a CD format read by a well known actress.
